Located north of the Arctic circle, the Lofoten Islands feature some of the planet’s most amazing landscapes. Charming fisherman cottages, called rorbu, add colorful red and yellow accents to the coastal villages. Rugged snow covered mountains rise up from the sea. Short winter days consist of golden hour lighting whenever the sun appears. Snow storms pass through the area on a daily basis. The lighting is always changing between beautiful soft blues, pinks and warm golden hues. I have assembled a new gallery of images to showcase this arctic light in Lofoten, which can be viewed by clicking here.
Sun breaking through the clouds. During the arctic winter, this golden light can be seen on the southern horizon.

A mix of blue and pink light over a fisherman wharf in the village of Hamnoy. Diffuse light from the sunrise to the south is filtered overhead through a passing snowstorm.
