I recently visited downtown Chicago, and photographed the famous art sculpture called Cloud Gate, more commonly known as “The Bean”.
I really enjoyed photographing the Bean at night. The skyline was aglow with color, the sky foggy, and the mist was reflecting the city lights below, giving this beautiful scene a bit of extra mystery. Night time is also the only time you can make wide angle images here that are not filled with tourists taking non-stop selfies with The Bean. After experimenting with different looks from different angles, I finished the night with a walk along the nearby Chicago River.
I was blessed with a half an hour of blue skies during an otherwise rainy couple of days. The Bean gives off amazing reflections of the skyline.
Reflections of the setting sun behind the Chicago skyline on The Bean. Late afternoon glow, shadows on nearby buildings surrounding Millenium Park, and beautiful skies.
A rain puddle adds an extra reflection of The Bean and the city skyline to this scene. I was very happy with this image, as it is one of those rare opportunities to capture something different than what you typically see of this iconic landmark.
Beautiful colors of the city lights reflect off the mist in a foggy sky. For those of you old enough to remember the futuristic science fiction movie "Bladerunner", these scenes are reminiscent to me of the ambience frequently used in that movie...darkness, misty rain and fog, and many colorful lights amongst the tall buildings.
Colorful reflections on the surface of The Bean.
World's largest ball bearing? A giant alien orb? Just spectacular!

Chicago is famous for its many different architectural style buildings. The bottom half of these cylindrical apartment buildings are a parking garage.
Light streaks from traffic crossing over one of the many bridges on the Chicago River. Beautiful reflections of the city lights on the water.
