Dunlewey (Irish: Dún Lúiche) is a small Gaeltacht village in the Gweedore area of County Donegal, Ireland. It sits in the Poisoned Glen , at the foot of Mount Errigal and on the shore of Dunlewey Lough. Folklore says that the Poisoned Glen is where the Irish warrior god “Lugh” slew the one-eyed giant King Balor, and poison seeped from Balor’s large ‘evil eye’. The remains of a crannóg (a fortified lake dwelling) was found on Dunlewey Lough, which may be the source of the name Dún Lúiche, which means “Lugh‘s fort”.
