The Korean War Memorial is a stark but beautiful reminder of the first major conflict of the Cold War. The site honors all who served in this war, including the 54,000 Americans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. The platoon of soldiers in full combat gear walking through rough terrain is a favorite site for visitors and photographers on the National Mall.

19 soldiers collectively called "The Column" patrol in a triangle formation across a field of juniper bushes. An American flag flies at the apex of the triangle.

The memorial also features black granite walls etched with images and names from the conflict. In low light, with some creative framing and exposure settings, this black wall acts as a great background to isolate the sculptures.
