Burnside Farms in Nokesville, Virginia grows a large field of tulips every year for their Festival of Spring. I had the opportunity to photograph the tulip fields at sunset on multiple evenings.
The Festival of Spring draws many people who come to pick the flowers and bulbs and take them home, and to take portraits. It’s a very interesting time to “people watch”. I decided to put together a small collection of candid shots of people enjoying the flowers and “doing whatever they were doing”. I looked for scenes with colorful clothing, interesting behaviors, and good lighting. It was especially fun to watch how the kids liked to play in the flowers. To me, this was a fun mix of colorful landscapes and “street photography”, just without the streets!
