Valley of Fire State Park is an amazing landscape of multi-colored sandstone, arches and canyons. There are endless opportunities to explore, hike, and photograph. The time of day for lighting is critical for many of these landscapes to bring out their best character and colors. The park officially opens at sunrise an closes at sunset. I entered from the east side entrance on several weekdays in February, and was able to drive in well before morning twilight without issue. I heard this was not the case for people entering from the west (Las Vegas side) on the weekend. After sunset, the rangers started kicking people out of the park towards the end of civil twilight. It should also be noted that this park is a short drive from the Las Vegas area, and can become very crowded. It is not a remote wilderness experience, however, you can quickly find places where you have nature all to yourself. You will have to share the more popular spots, such as the Fire Wave, with lots of other people.
