White Sands National Monument is another favorite place of mine that is visually stunning. As luck would have it, I usually seem to arrive in the park at the height of a raging sandstorm. This makes for some interesting images, as swirling clouds of white gypsum sand blow across the dunes. As an added bonus, the next day, the dunes are awash in pristine ridges, ripples, and dune forms that have been wiped clean of all human footprints.
